Staff Information, Including Writing Guidelines & Current Needs

Writers Remember is always looking for contributing staff writers for regular submissions about the writing life, from short anecdotes to articles from a writer's perspective, especially those having to do with their passion for writing, and personal experiences. Please let us know if you would be interested in helping out in any way.

Staff Application: If you are interested in joining the staff of Writers Remember, please send an e-mail to editor@writersremember.com, with the subject "Staff Inquiry" (or just click on the e-mail there and the subject will be added automatically). Please include a brief message about yourself, including why you would like to be part of the staff, and how you believe you might be able to contribute. There is no strict application process, but we do seek contributors who are passionate about writing. No previous publishing experience is required.

Submission Schedule: Once (1) or twice (2) a month a month is ideal for staff submissions. The submission schedule revolves around the middle and end of each month. The actual dates may vary a bit from month to month, but I will keep writers updated on a regular basis, both by e-mail and the staff forum, where the editorial calendar is available.

Submission Length: We do not wish to cramp the writer's style, and find just about any length, long or short, from anywhere around 200 words to 1,000 words, is acceptable for articles and/or columns. Any further editing will be done while corresponding with the original author.

Submission Needs: Just about anything goes, from writing reviews (books & films), to writing about various genres and styles, to fiction, nonfiction, and journaling, and so much more. We're always in need of writing prompts and exercises as well. The site is still very new, and we're looking for people who have a passion about writing, to contribute something that they feel is dear to their hearts.

Staff Forum: If you are interested in joining the staff of Writers Remember please join the Writers Remember forum. When you have joined the forum, and are a confirmed staff member, you will be added to the Staff Member user group (which includes having the title "Staff Member" under your username) and you may volunteer to moderate a particular area of the forum if you feel comfortable doing so.

Staff Compensation: At the moment we cannot offer compensation, but We have become a paying market, and will pay between $5-$10, depending on length of submission and rights involved. In addition, we offer a generous bio, byline, and links, even a photo if you'd like. We have received numerous e-mails from people who believe that it is time for a Web site like this, and are looking forward to it, so we believe it may be a success in the future. However, I (Julia) am personally in this for the love of it, because it saddens me to see so many writers who are discouraged. I know that writing for free or low payments is not always looked upon very highly, but this endeavor does not require much time in researching and writing. The several articles I have written so far for Writers Remember are more like journal entries in their introspective qualities.

* Reviews of books, films, etc., about the writing & reading craft and passion: Payment is $5 for reviews with a preferred word count of 250-300 words. Read our guidelines for more information.

* Writing prompts & exercises: No payment for prompts at this time. A generous byline & bio are available. Read our guidelines for more information.

* Quotes, anecdotes, and/or experiences about the writing life: No payment for these at this time. A generous byline & bio are available. Read our guidelines for more information.

Writing Guidelines:

* Queries: Queries are welcome, but not required. (This is regarding freelance articles.) Feel free to pitch ideas!

* Contact: e-mail us at editor@writersremember.com (Attachments are acceptable.)

* Word Count: Preferably between 200 words to 1,000 words.

* Submissions: We accept both unsolicited and simultaneous submissions. Please indicate if it is a simultaneous submission.

* Reprints: We happily accept reprints. Please indicate this by letting us know where and when it was previously published.

* Rights: We ask for first rights or reprint rights, depending on the situation of the material. In addition, Writers Remember asks for non-exclusive electronic publishing rights (in order to place the piece on our website and possible partial newsletter inclusion), as well as archive rights to have the work remain on the Writers Remember Web site for an indefinite period of time. If at any time the writer would prefer it be removed from the site, Writers Remember will comply. Authors retain all other rights. If your work is chosen for publication in our newsletter we will contact you regarding possible inclusion, as well as whether it will be featured in-full or partial (partial includes a blurb about the article, with a link to the Web site to "read more").

* Compensation: Writers Remember is becoming a paying market. Our payment will range from $5 to $10 per submission, mostly depending on length and rights. We will pay $5-$10 for first rights, and $5 for reprints or one-time rights (usually $10 for first rights, and $5 for reprints or one-time rights). In addition, writers whose work is accepted will have the option of a generous byline & bio, as well as link(s) to their Web site(s). Staff writers will also have a generous inclusion on the Writers Remember staff page.

* Original Work: Feature articles must be the original work of the author. Writers Remember does not condone plagiarism. Quotes, prompts, exercises, anecdotes, etc. should be properly credited. If a work is discovered to be plagiarized it will be removed immediately.

Note: Writers Remember reserves the right to edit for flow, content, etc., and will always consult the writer about edits.

We are not looking for search engine optimization content. We are looking for writers' experiences based on their love of the craft. Writers Remember is a labor of love, intent on reminding discouraged and weary writers of their long-lost passion for writing, and helping them rekindle the spark once again. We do not ask for outrageous rights, and have a relaxed submission basis.
