This post was something that we at Writers Remember thought might interest writers, but we are in no way affiliated with Writers in the Heartland.

You should direct any questions to the e-mail address listed in the post: writersintheheartland@gmail.com.

This is just me talking, but I don't know of any other costs, aside from your own personal cost of getting to the residency itself and any personal needs. I'd take it to mean what it says, that the residency itself is free, since lodging and food are the main components. It sounds as though there are no other actual costs.

Also, I'd recommend you visit the website's About page for more information, including:

Writers are housed in The Writers Building that contains five private bedrooms (and bath?), a kitchen and a conference room. Three meals a day are provided in the main dining room, although writers may prefer to take food back to their rooms. All meals are mostly vegetarian, low in fat and sodium. With the exception of mealtimes, the residency enforces a non-communication policy up to six o'clock p.m. to allow writers the necessary privacy to concentrate on their work.

We hope that helps, and that you find the answer you're looking for.

What does "The residency is free insofar as lodging and food are covered." mean? What other costs are there?
